With the new Lux 21 laminate press line, Unilin is introducing a new state-of-the-art production line that takes innovation and efficiency to the next level. With advanced technologies and a focus on speed and precision, we are setting a new benchmark in laminate flooring.
1. Lux 21 is Lux 18’s even more impressive sibling
Lux 21 is an evolution of an existing press line with several technical upgrades. For example, Lux 21 is operated through intuitive touch panels. Based on earlier experiences, the software program was also rewritten from scratch, further enhancing the new line’s efficiency.
2. Pressing two designs at once for twice as many options
One of Lux 21’s biggest innovations is that it has two presses positioned in tandem. As a result, two products can be manufactured simultaneously, allowing a more flexible response to demand for a variety of designs. Lux 21 primarily focuses on Quick-Step’s top sellers.
3. 30 per cent faster than other lines
Lux 21 is built for speed and efficiency. With an annual production capacity of 15 million m² of laminate, this line is up to 30 per cent faster than Unilin Flooring’s other press lines.
From the application of the design layer using robots to the registration of finished packs through bar codes: Lux 21 places maximum emphasis on automation and the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI). Cameras and robots ensure ultra-precise positioning of the materials, resulting in next-level end product quality and minimising human error.
5. A €30 million investment
Construction of Lux 21 is a large-scale project that represents a €30 million investment. Laminate has been one of our mainstays for 40 years and we remain strongly committed to innovation and the future of this product. Construction of Lux 21 started in May 2024 and the first test boards rolled off the production line in late 2024. Following a successful test phase, production was officially launched in late March 2025.
Want to know more about (the future of) laminate at Unilin?
Green energy producer Aspiravi and Unilin are teaming up to build a third energy plant in Vielsalm that runs on waste wood. The project involves an investment of €100 million.
Six months ago a global AI hype took the world by storm. Unilin was in no hurry to climb the bandwagon because we have been investigating the potential benefits of AI for all our processes for several years now. Meanwhile some AI models have been integrated into the production process while others are currently being trained and tested. Still others were found to be too unreliable after a test phase. The key question is: when does AI provide us with added value?
In 2023, Unilin celebrates its 50th year of expertise in insulation. After starting as a small-scale producer of roof elements in 1973 the company has since become the number two in Europe in the insulation panel market. And there are still strong ambitions in store for the future, with sustainability in the starring role.
